Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
Introduction.
An Attribute is defined as a “quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or inherent part of someone or something.”
But in this great God, Elohim, was attributes. There was attributes in there to be God; attributes to be Father; attributes to be Son; attributes to be Saviour; attributes to be healer. All these attributes was in God. And if you’ve ever got Eternal Life, you were in God’s attributes, because you got Eternal Life. Jesus came as Redeemer. And redeem means “bring it back to where it started from.” Right. You were in God’s thinking. He might have to breed this with that, and down here and down here.
Like a man making chimes for the church; puts in so-much brass and so-much iron, and gets it just at the right pitch. The molder knows how to put it in. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t get the right ring.
And God knows just exactly where you belong, and what age you belong in. And, therefore, if you got Eternal Life; the word Eternal is “something never did begin, or never can end.” So, whoever you were, see, you were, you always were. You were God’s attribute being displayed, a Word. “In the beginning was the Word.”
And the word is a thought made manifest. You think it, then speak it. Like I’d say, “The light.” I had to think “light” before I said “light.” “Microphone,” have to say…think “microphone,” to say “a microphone.”
And we are God’s attributes displayed.
64-0401 - The Identified Christ Of All Ages
His attribute of sonship was manifested in the first Adam, but not perfectly, it would only be perfectly manifested in the 2nd Adam, Christ.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
But you see now why that that Man was more than just a teacher, as people say He is today, a philosopher, or a good Man, or a prophet. He was Emmanuel. He was the Son of God, which is Jehovah God made manifest in His attributes of displaying Himself in a body that He built, Himself. Amen.
It reflected. And the sinful nature of a man could not do the thing that He did. See? So it had to be God making and reflecting Himself in the Man, making a mirror, that we might see that perfect Man, which is Christ. Yes.
77 This, doing that, reflected His noble, loving character. See, in Him was an attribute as a Saviour, and it had to display itself. And He could not be a Saviour and be a natural-born man. He had to be more than a man. And He was.
63-0123 - Identification
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
The true church of Jesus Christ, the bride, is likened to PURE gold. Her righteousness is HIS righteousness. Her attributes are HIS own glorious attributes. Her identity is found in Him. What He is, she is to reflect. What He has, she is to manifest.
CAB 03 - Ephesian
Now, then, if It was, Jesus was the fullness of God manifested. He was the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Therefore, when He came to the earth and was manifested in flesh, you were here in Him then, because He was the Word. “In the beginning was the Word; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” The Word was made flesh. Therefore, you walked with Him, when you were in Him, when He was on earth.
You suffered with Him, and you died with Him. You was buried with Him. And now you are risen with Him, and manifested attributes of God, setting in Heavenly places; already raised, resurrected to new Life, and setting in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Oh, that means so much, nowadays, Church! That means so much to us, to see ourself positionally placed in Jesus Christ!
33 Now, if we are those attributes of God, we cannot live by creeds. We cannot live by denominationalism. We must live by the Word, because the Bride is a part of the Bridegroom, like any wife is a part of her husband. Therefore, we must be that Word Bride.
And what is that Word Bride? The manifestation of this hour, the Bride, not a creed or a denomination; but a living oracle of God, a living attribute of God, displaying to the world the attributes of God, in the formation of the Bride that’s to be expressed in this hour that we’re now living.
65-1205 - Things That Are To Be
Gentleness
Paul is making clear to the Corinthians that what they mistook as weakness was actually an attribute of gentleness manifested in Christ.
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
Gentleness definition:
ἐπιείκεια, considerateness, forbearance, fairness.
It is indulgence and tolerance.
To the Roman world Gentleness and Fairness was a vice, because it would get you taken advantage of. Paul had to correct that perception.
Notice how Eve’s children displayed the attributes of their fathers.
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
ἐκ, ἐξ, from out, out from among, from, suggesting from the interior outwards; ἐξ Ἑβραίων, descended from Hebrews, Phil. 3:5: with gen. of price, Mt. 20:2, Ac. 1:18; in partitive phrase, as subject of sentence, John 16:17; cf. the periphrasis οἱ ἐξ ἐριθείας, Rom. 2:8.
Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Enoch built the first city.
Jabal was the first cattle rancher.
Jubal started the first band with harps and organs.
Tubal-cain invented metal working
Lamech invented polygamy and was a murderer.
And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:
94 Notice. It’s noteworthy to notice. At the beginning, Seth and his children never went the scientific way.
Now we’re going to talk about science for a few minutes. If I say this, not excusing my ignorance; but, a bunch of ignoramuses, anything that’ll deny the Word of God. See? Sure.
It’s noteworthy. Watch it. Seth’s children never went the scientific route. They were humble herdsmen, farmers, and so forth.
But Cain’s children did. Why? Inspired by their daddy, the devil. Cain, inspired by his daddy, the devil, and these inspired by that seed coming down.
65-0801M - The God Of This Evil Age
172 And you know good and well the teaching of your Lord, that the wicked people of the day, and every day, has always been the smart people. Don’t you know it was Cain’s people that become scientists and genius, while God’s people were shepherds and so forth, plumb on down to the destruction? And it was them humble peasant farmers and so forth that was saved in the ark, and the genius was destroyed. Don’t you know Jesus said, “The children of this day, this world, is wiser and smarter than the children of the Kingdom”? Why? They are lambs, they need a leader. And they try to choose their leader by intellects, the smart does; but the humble chooses their leader, which is the Holy Ghost. That’s exactly what the church has done, the denominational giants the church chose; while, the real Body of Christ chose the Holy Spirit and His Word. Depends on what you’re letting lead you. A lamb has to be led, and that’s where we’ve got to.
62-1216 - The Falling Apart Of The World
Look at Esau and Jacob
And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.
When the Son of God came to the earth, the 2nd Adam, he came in a manger, among shepherds.
He came with gentleness.
About David DuPlessis:
But I like his spirit, that gentle, right straight to the point, compromising for nothing; but yet, gentle with it. I like that.
You know, Jesus wasn’t a sissy by no means. He wasn’t just a feminish type person; He was man. But yet, He could speak right straight to the point, but yet, with gentleness. And I see a person can do that, I just think of the Spirit of Christ being in them.
59-0416 - El-Shaddai
Lets see how His gentleness was displayed.
His very first miracle was performed at a wedding.
And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
And when He come, He was born in a manger. He come to use the weapon of l-o-v-e, love, to conquer the world; not with army bullets, not with machine guns and tanks. But He come in a different manner. He come in the form of love. He was God’s love.
29 One time, as a little boy, I used to think that Christ loved me, and God hated me; because that Christ died for me, but God had something against me. But I come to find out that Christ is the very heart of God. “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but would have Eternal Life.”
30 Now He come, first, to conquer. And the thing that the devil had put in the world was hatred. And He come to conquer hatred. When we win our battles, and so forth, in the world’s battles, it always leaves, continually, a hatred; because, battles of that sort is of the enemy. But Christ come with love, to conquer hatred, to love those who were unlovable. He come with a different weapon. And He humbled Himself, “made a little lower than the Angels,” to suffer death, and to give an example. And when He was here on earth, He walked among man.
31 He proved His weapons of warfare, when He healed the sick. When He took five little biscuits and two pieces of fishes, and fed five thousand people, He proved that He had the power over every atomic that there was. Not only did He grow fish, but He growed cooked fish. Not only did He grow wheat in those biscuits, but He growed cooked wheat in those biscuits. It showed that He was that great and mighty Conqueror! Not only did He get the water from the well, but He made that water, wine, from the well. He proved He had Power to conquer. And He loved, and His weapon was love. Now notice.
57-0421S - The Great And Mighty Conqueror
He was gentle with sinners
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
Gentleness was not His only attribute. There were times He had to use the whip, usually on the religious crowd.
His attribute of gentleness could not be displayed until He came into a body of flesh.
So then a great big diamond, it doesn’t have the fire in it when you find it. No, it’s got to be cut for that.
57 And that was God, and He had to be wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities. He is the big Diamond. And then when you cut a diamond, (did you ever notice?) you cut it in a three-cornered shape, and the sun against that will reflect seven colors. See? And looking, red through red, looks white. Did you know that? That’s right. Red through red, that’s the Blood, the red Blood looking at a…God looking at a red sinner, through red Blood, turns him white. He is in the heart, you see.
58 And so now, in that, I said, “God chipped, cut, bruised, to reflect in these rays, as it hits the great Word of God, reflects what God is.”
64-0620B - Who Is Jesus?
The Attribute of Gentleness was shown in the Dove leading the Lamb.
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
